The Feidie company desired proposals for their new headquarters in the cultural capital of China, the city of Hangzhou. The size of the site, 37,000 m2, the large floor to area ratio, FAR of 2.5 and regional affinity for sun led to two solutions both of which fully utilized the available FAR. The extroverted solution provides two inverted landmark pyramids and a mixture of private and public spaces. The introverted proposal provides a private urban forest to the project’s permanent and transient residents.
